Hello and welcome. I recently purchased a New Seastar telescope and I'm wondering if it's necessary to have the lens protector. I opted not to buy any additional accessories to keep costs down, as they can be quite expensive. The lens protector would have added almost 300 to the total cost. I'm curious to know if anyone else uses this telescope without the lens protector and if it's okay to do so.

Lens protector during use? Like you would a cell phone? Or like a Dew Shield? Or is it a cover during storage?

I wouldn't put anything in front of the optics if it's not necessary (e.g. solar filter for the sun). Dew shield is fine because it doesn't go over the actual lens. And cover during storage is fine but it's usually pointing down or in its case.

Can you add a picture or a link to this 300$ lens protector.

I would wonder the same as others. What is this protector? It cost more than half of the device itself. I use a 3D printed dew shield at all times. But i do not cover the optics while imaging. It is not necessary as the glass is quite sturdy. You would have to drop it to break it. It is also not something that will get scratches as such by using it for its intended purpose.
