Considering the LS100MT DS…

Hi all, I’m considering the Lunt LS100MT DS for both visual and observing, day and night. After seeing great solar pics here on Astrobin, I’ve been bitten by the desire to observe and image the sun, especially as activity rises in the next 4 years. I’m considering the LS100MT because I can use it for night time imaging, too, and it fills a good gap in my collection as I have a 61mm, 80mm, and 130mm for night time imaging. The 100 would fit nicely. I’m thinking of selling a couple of my scopes and some accessories to cover part of the costs as it is a bit pricey, but it is a triplet and has a dual purpose so I’m thinking….you only live once, LOL. Questions. Do you have to have two focusers for easier conversion, one for the single/double stack and one for night time with a base plate?I already have a white light Herschel wedge, an EP collection, extra diagonal, etc. Is there any other accessories I should consider, especially for solar imaging?   Will I be able to get a full disk with the LS100MT? Do I need a polarizing filter? Any other advice or things I should consider?  Thanks,Rob

I have a Lunt 100 double stack (my double
stack is a front mounted etalon). I can e
do full disk with my zw0 1600 or basler 183. I can’t answer your question about polarizing filter since my double stack is front mounted

I pulled the trigger on it with a double stack and reducer. Now I have to sell a couple of telescopes and a slew of accessories to help fund it. Hell, I’m even selling some of my ancient coin catalogs to sell it! This hobby is dreadfully expensive, as addicting as meth, and more fun than humans should be allowed (without the sarcasm usually attached to this saying, LOL.)

Thanks, Alan, for your feedback. Looking forward to getting into solar astronomy. Your pictures are inspirational.

Cheers,
