Howdy, I am in the hobby for about 9 months now. I started shooting from a Bortle class 7 with no tracker, stock dslr and telephoto lens and got hooked up. Then I found Bortle 2 sites 1h30 from home and upgraded my gear. I love the hobby and now share it with my 5 yr old son.

Howdy from a former Texan who lives in New York now.   (I'll be back as soon as I can.)  While I lived in Lubbock, I did narrowband from my Bortle 7/8 backyard and drove 70 minutes or so to Bortle 2 dark sites for LRGB, so it was basically the same thing you are doing. In New York, I do most imaging from my Bortle 4/5 house and occasionally drive out into the country for darker skies - but it's tough sledding when you can't buy a clear night for weeks on end.
