Any thoughts on what this is? I noticed this in my 30 sec subs shooting a wide field of Orion. Shown below includes the before and after with one image with what I am talking about highlighted. Is it a flare from a satellite?

Hi David,

very likly to be a flare from a solar panel of a satellite. But without precise time and location it is only a wild guess.
You may check it in Stellarium and try to identify the satellite.

Excellent idea, thanks! I will try that!

It also can be a meteor David.

Hi Christoph,

this came also to my mind, but the flare is perfectly symmetric. Usually a meteor would have some asymmetry. At least so far as I have experienced that, since temperature is at its maximum at the end of the trail.
But of course, this could also be an option. Crosschecking in some planetarium SW should reveal it quickly.

Flare, satellite rotation, optical artifact  or Romulan star destroyer inbound.

I revoke my first analysis and support Sigga's analysis. It is a Romulan destroyer! For sure!

Satellite flare? That's what they'd like you to think. I agree with my fly-fishing friend. Romulan star destroyer without a doubt.

Yes, and I got the prove. A simple zoom-in brought the evidence. No doubts remaining!

Sounds like a good plan. I join in. Cheers!

Surtur 8.2, was released at the beginning of the season of Þorri, the traditional winter-feast season. Surtur 8.2 is a potent imperial stout, 14.8% alcohol by volume. It has been aged for six months on bourbon barrels.

I weight 48kg, one bottle, Romulans seem reasonable answer.

Oh well…

:-)

Sounds like real good stuff. smile
But maybe we should stay with blue "Romulan Ale"?
Sorry, could not resits… smile
David Quattlebaum avatar
OK Romulans aside….It appears that there is a Hylas4 path that is very close to the position the flare appears to be located. This Avanti Comm satellite also has a very wide Solar panel array

Sorry folks smile

Hi David,
glad you were able to identify your alien. Thanks for the feedback! smile
